Frequently Asked Questions

Is it really free to host?

Yes, we will assume all upfront costs from installation to hardware.

Why do I need to submit my locations to qualify?

We leverage cutting edge technology to help our host/partners (you) earn the maximum amount of passive income possible. We can quickly assess the coverage and earnings potential of your location and determine if it improves coverage for the network and if it does, well, we want you to take flight with us. Don’t take it personally if we don’t choose your location. It doesn’t mean your home or building isn’t absolutely awesome – it just means you’re either too early (and we will notify you when the time is right) or you’re too late (a bunch of hotspots are already providing coverage near you).

How much am I expected to earn?
Revenue share: We anticipate the income opportunity for the host in the 1st year to range from $1,200 to $4,000 per location/unit with the greatest opportunity being when we first deploy the units. The amount of Helium a hotspot can mine varies greatly and depends on several factors like its location and nearby hotspots.

Fixed Monthly option: If you are the more conservative type we offer fixed payment options starting at $50.00 per month

Is this secure?
Yes, but with all things connected to the internet, there can be some level of risk so there are security measures that Helium has taken, and are doing, to keep our network safe.

Helium-enabled LoRaWAN devices are hardware-secured to protect the traffic from the utilized spectrum. This means the security is built-in since devices using the network have AES private key encryption at the chip level.

All approved Helium Hotspots comply with the relevant radio and wireless regulations in the country or region where they are deployed. For example, Hotspots in the US comply with FCC regulations for operating in the unlicensed 902-928MHz spectrum, the CE mark for the European 868MHz spectrum, etc.
Helium released more information here about the security measures they take to keep our network safe.

How much electricity will the unit use?

The units use low electricity at $10 annually at most – can’t complain right?

How much Internet / Wi-Fi bandwidth will the unit use?

The Hotspot uses very little data, and nearly zero compared to your other set of devices that are consuming hundreds of GBs per month.

The Hotspot uses data to:
(1) maintain a view of the global Helium Network
(2) send and receive data packets for sensors that are in range and using your piece of the Helium Network

In both instances, the total amount of data usage is extremely small and will never affect your network quality. Expected bandwidth utilized by devices is 1-5kb/s (about the size of a long text message) and devices communicate with the Hotspot over LongFi, not IP (Internet Protocol).
